It decreases by the acceleration of gravity
v(t)=v0-g*t
look at a delta of 1 seconds, where t2-t1=1

v1=v0-g*t1
v2=v0-g*t2

v2-v1=-g*(t2-t1)
since t2-t1=1
v2-v1=g

This is typical of any straight-line linear function. In this case, g is the slope of the velocity line in the vertical direction.
