I like it! I think Ian would be an adorable name for a boy of hispanic descent, and I think that it actually flows nicely with your last name. The middle name sounds nice with it too. Congratulations!

Well, if she is mestizo everyone is going to see her as hispanic. We had some students who had English surnames in my school and we never saw them as less "hispanic" than us. Also, many Argentinians and Cubans have English and French surnames. Like Alexis Bledel and there was a white Cuban girl in my class with a last name "Bartemeut" which is not a typical surname at all. Yet, no one saw her as less Cuban. The government defines us that way by our last names and the language we speak. But between ourselves and in society if you come from a Spanish-speaking country or your parents did then you're "hispanic" regardless of what your name or last name is. So you're mistaken about the importance of last names. No one really cares about that. It's more about the culture that you were raised in and if you identify with that. For example, Jessica Alba to me is not a "hispanic" woman. She may have a Spanish surname but she doesn't speak Spanish and she herself has said that she does not see herself that way. She is the grandchild of a Mexican immigrant. She is American. Alexis Bledel speaks Spanish fluently and identifies with the country of her father, Argentina, so who is more "hispanic" in this example? Names do not matter unless you're taking a census or applying for government help. It's all about what you identify as.

I think it sounds fantastic! I love both Ian and Carlos, and they sound wonderful together. Ian Rodriguez is very cool :) Sounds like a baseball player or something!

Excellent choice, and best of luck!

Illian was the Cuban boy who came to Miami, it sounds English too. This is America and I like it.

When we named our daughter one of the choices was Rosalinda from the Billy Joel song, Not cause it's Spanish but cause it's beautiful, Beautiful Rose.

You do what your heart tells you.

Buena Suerte
