It is actually an 1880 Morgan Dollar. You did not mention a mint mark, if it has one it is located on the reverse (eagle side) near the bottom, below the wreath. If there is no mint mark it was minted in Philadelphia and had a mintage of 12,600,000 . there are two varieties one is the just plain 1880 the other is the 1880 with the 80 over 79. In high grades it is a three figure coin. The regular date is worth $13 in grade very good up to $16.75 in grade almost uncirculated. These vales are about what a dealer would pay. If the coin does have a mint mark you can re-ask the question or email me here. There are varieties also of the ones with mint marks.

The 1880 Morgan Dollar comes in a whole boatload of versions and varieties. You don't mention if it has a mint mark and the condition of the coin as you describe it is not specific enough to give a reliable value. May I suggest you take it to a coin dealer who can see it and will then be able to give you a more accurate assessment of its value.

Otherwise you could try to get a value by going to pcgs.com and looking up the price there.

Sorry I could not be much more help.
