As far as the government is concerned, it is free speech.

That doesn't apply to employers, etc. If your employer has a policy against racial harassment and you e-mail such a joke on the company's servers, they can punish you for violating their policy and misuse of company property.

Yup! Just because you don't like or don't want to hear it don't change the fact that it's somebody's right to say it.

The only speech that isn't covered is a threat to do bodily harm or destroy someones property. And your freedom of speech is "deminished" in certain situations, like at an airport for instance. If you even joke about having a bomb you will be arrested!

for the time being, yes those are still covered by freedom of speech. give it a few years, and it will eventually be illegal to say certain things that are offensive to others. that's the way the country is moving, and it will continue to go in that direction, unfortunately. we are not that far off from seeing people behind bars for merely stating unpopular opinions.

"Freedom of speech" would be better entitled "Freedom to Express Ideas". So far I'll maintain my neutrality. It all depends on the content and how far it goes. But I won't blame the government if it turns a blind eye if somebody ... mmm ... takes 'corrective measures'.

ultimately yes, however when you hold a specific title, you are expected to obtain a great amount of integrity. Jokes can be frowned upon, but it is still freedom of speech

Sure -- for the most part, even offensive speech is protected speech . . . it changes, however, when the speech becomes an action, or is classified as "fighting words."

Yes.

That doesn't mean that any idiot should just go and make fruitless and biased jokes though. As much as you're allowed to, it's always better not to.

Of course. There's freedom of speech, but there is also taste and manners.

Yep. The government can't make laws prohibiting stupid jokes. That doesn't mean a citizen can't punch you for it though...
