Melia Varadero or Melia Las Americas? Which is the better resort?

I am having trouble distinguishing between them. I know that they are side by side but I believe there is a difference is quality.. I would like to hear opinions of those who hopefully have frequented both or know travelers who have.

The Las Americas is more modern, and I think better.

But I have not stayed in either, so cannot comment about the rooms.

I have stayed in the Sol, and that needed redecorating at the time. (Six years ago !)
