I'm looking for a girl's name. I want it to be semi-unique but not "weird" for a white girl.
I like Annabelle, but some people say is sounds too old-fashioned. Others think it's too long of a name for a kid (to learn to write it, etc). And, I don't want people calling her Annie.
I also like Kyla, but others say it sounds like a ghetto name or is too "weird". I don't want anything too common like Kayla, Kaylie or Katelyn.

Any suggestions??

lynn m: it's funny you should suggest Chiara. I have a cat named Kiara! Some people still can't pronounce it and just call her Kay.

The "others" I'm talking about are my boyfriend, best friend, and my mom. I respect their opinions, but in the end I am going to choose what I want. Thanks :-)

I like Annabelle...Just make sure you don't call her Annie, and it won't get started.. The nickname usually comes from the mother..

Kyla is SO not ghetto, if anything it is very 70's.. I don't think it is bad either...

Here are some more you may like
Kaliana

i think noelle is beautiful. its unique but not weird by any means. i also like it because its hard for people to give it a nick name. i like names that people cant mess with. like annabelle is an ADORABLE name but i agree, i dont especially like the name annie. too common. Noel or Noelle are both cute ways to spell it, i just perfer the latter because its a little more unqiue. kids will learn to spell their name eventually so honestly i dont think that should even be a deciding factor. noel/noelle is beautifully paired with annabelle as a middle name if youre still interested in annabelle. which by the way doesnt sound too old-fashioned. i know a couple little annabelles that are very cute. well good luck!

I like both names. If you choose Annabelle you can call her Belle ...........like in Beauty and the Beast!!

And what's wrong with a kid learning how to write a long name??? She's gonna have to learn how to write many other long words. That is silly thinking. And Kyla does not sound "ghetto", who are these people you are talking to???

Congratulations on your baby girl and quit listening to these people!!!

Annabelle is a wonderful name. I think of a fun person with a strong character. It's easy to spell and pronounce, and good for a child and an adult. If you like to use nicknames there are several possibilities. It's not too long and it has only five different letters.

you could do Kyra, which is not a ghetto name, And I still think Kyla is gorgeous! For Annabelle, you could Name her Anne Belle, and call her belle, or just write it Annabelle, and still just call her belle! she won't have to write it out so often because for most school papers that SHE fills out, you won't need the full name until later grades. So your options are:

Kyla
Kyra
Annabelle (Called Belle)
Anna Belle (called belle)
Annabelle (called Annabelle, though that could be difficult for the girl)

I won't offer other ones because I don't know what you like, from those two names.

I like Kyla just fine. i hate ghetto names as well, but i know plenty of white & black girls names Kyla. Whoever is saying that is ignorant. Kyla is just a current & common name that precedes race, like jessica, danielle, brittany, ashley, or michelle for the 80s babies!
* How about Kyler or Kylar?

I like Annabelle, I think it's pretty, Belle is cute for a nick name
Tallulah, Tallie for short
Sierra, Selena, Sherie and Shayna are pretty and not common
Lacey is cute
Tori is cute
Kyla is pretty
Tara, Tia and Gia are short and pretty, easy for a child to spell.

Name your child the name you love. If you love the name, then it's the prefect name for your child. Do not let people talk you out of the name

I've always loved the name Helena. It's old fashioned but it still has a good ring to it. It also gives a serene feel and a nice tone to the ears, no matter if it's pronounced with the H or not.

All in all it's your decision. Take care of her and name her what you wish, no matter what others say.
