carry the x's over to one side, the numbers to the other

-7+4 = 5x - 2x
-3 = 3x
x = -1

Combine like terms.

2x - 7 = 5x - 4

2x - 5x = -4 + 7

-3x = 3

Divide both sides of the linear equation by -3 to find the vaule of x.

x = 3/-3

x = -1

first you will want to get all of the variables on one side and all of the constants on the other side

2x - 7 = 5x - 4

let's move the variables to the left by subtracting 5x from both sides

2x - 7 - 5x = 5x - 4 - 5x

that gives us -3x -7 = -4

next, add the seven to both sides to get the constants all on the right

-3x -7 + 7 = -4 + 7

so, -3x = 3

the point is to find out what x is so now divide both sides by negative 3

x = -1

2x-7= 5x-4 Get variables, and constants on their own side.
-2x+4 =-2x+4 Notice the two sides are equal.
-3= 3x <----that's what you are left with after simplifying
x= -1 divide wach side by 3 to get x by itself, and viola!!
i hope this helped.

solving for x I assume

2x-7=5x-4

add 7 to both sides,
subtract 5x from both sides

2x-7+7-5x=5x-4+7-5x

-3x=3

divide both sides by -3

x=3/-3

x=-1
