Today was my friend's birthday so a group of us went in to town for a few drinks. We started a pub crawl and stopped off in one place that was doing karaoke. We decided to be brave and sit there for a bit.
This guy started singing and it was HIDEOUS. He sounded like a camel giving birth to triplets. In a public toilet. In Newcastle. I cannot emphasise how dreadful it was - he didn't actually form any words, just tunelessly brayed for 5 minutes. My friends and I couldn't control ourselves and sat there howling with laughter, we tried to stop but couldn't.
THEN when the guy finished, the barman gets up and says very seriously "Well done Dan, you were very brave" and he gets a round of applause from everyone. We realised at that point that this unfortunate Dan must have been deaf.
We quickly left. I was mortified. Would you be?

I would be absolutely mortified. But you didnt know he was deaf till the end and the fact that you have posted this question just goes to show that you are a nice person really because you feel bad. If you was an arsehole you wounldnt have give it another thought.

Yes I would be too, though you didn't know.To think of it this way, I laugh at people at karaoke, isn't that why people go? At least he has a reason, have you heard some of those people that get up there? I did laugh not at Dan but the fact of you guys jettin out of there feeling like arses. It reminds me of this one time this lady my mother knew came to the house to drop stuff off and I congratulated her, going on about how she must be so excited, she was like for what? At that moment I knew she wasn't pregnant, needless to say the most awkward moment I've had, I felt so stupid lol. I just said, I'll get my mom for you...

I think some people are overreacting in a big way. You did not know he was deaf - and if I understand correctly, you didn't find out for sure. As long as you didn't point at the poor sod while cackling like demented hens, you're in the clear. How the hell were you to know??

If he was deaf he wouldn't have heard you laughing so I wouldn't worry about it. If the barman had really cared about poor Dan there was nothing from stopping him coming over and giving you the nod! lol:-D

No. Equal rights in a PC world means that we can laugh at the disabled just as much as we laugh at the abled. I think.

Just remind yourself of George Bush asking the reporter 'if he was going to take his sunglasses off before asking a question' before the reporter told him he was blind!!
Dont take it badly - I am sure I would have done the same!

Nah! If someone hasn't told him by now that he's bloody awful it ain't YOUR fault. They probably let him go on BECAUSE he gives everybody a laugh! I'd probably have been in hysterics WITH you!
