Please Can Some One Tell Me What Freestyle Means In Wrestling?

Freestyle wrestling is one of the two types of wrestling practiced in the Olympics, the other one being Greco-Roman. Freestyle differs from Folkstyle (Collegiate and High-School) wrestling by placing an emphasis on throws. An easy way to think about it is the higher you throw the opponent, the more points you get. The long explanation is that points for throws are awarded based on height, position, and if your opponent goes over you. Also, in freestyle, you generally try to stay down as low to the ground as you can when you are taken down because you don't want to give your opponent any leverage to pick you up and throw or roll you again.

Where ever you heard Freestyle, someone was probably referring to real wrestling, not that fake ****. If not, then I wouldn't know.

what you're asking is about the difference between collegiate and freestyle. 1. the scoring is slightly different. not so much the points given but what it takes to recieve those points. In collegieat you must have your opponents back be more than 45 degree angle exposed to the mat for at least 3 seconds to score back points. In freestyle, a mere flash of mat exposure is a point. Also, you can win by technical fall after scoring at least 10 points more than your opponent. It's been a long time since I was in high school and wrestled but I think that now days they have combined a lot of the same point system and rules as freestyle. I was at a High school meet last year and noticed the ref was scoring rather liberally, A parent notified me that freestyle scoring and regulatory calls have been installed into collegiate wrestling to make the matches a little more exciting and go faster. So I wouldn't really worry about the difference anymore cause it sound as if there is none. Just listen to your coaches, make your weight and work your *** off to make the team. FEAR NO MAN!!!
