Not castlling early, not protecting the queen, not keeping the knight in the middle of the board...basic stuff...never fail to figure out your opponent, though.

The biggest mistake that anyone can make in any game is failure to find a way into your opponents thought process...ask alot, answer little and analyze the body language...when you need a moment to think, excuse yourself to the bathroom (enter the gameroom with more liquid then you could ever handle)...this offers more opportunity to break your foes concentration and momentum.

Once in order to win my high school chess championship all I had to do was win one game. I was winning easily--and then I allowed a stalemate.:(
(The memory hurts to this day.)
