We currently have carpet in the ferret playroom and considering removing it as it is hard to keep it clean and non odorous. Would like some input into appropriate floor covering that they can not hurt themselves on.

I have vinyl flooring in their room and it works great! The pee and poop from their 'accidents' cleans up easily and, instead of vacuuming it, I just sweep it with a broom. It makes clean-up fast and easy. Also, it's a lot of fun sliding them along the floor and they LOVE it!! They start dooking like crazy and start chasing after each other and doing all their little flips and jumps - it's quite comical! The only thing that would make vinyl unsafe is if they were to climb up on something tall and fall off - the landing wouldn't be near as soft as carpet. That's the only thing I can think of that you should be careful about.

Vinyl flooring or that fake wood stuff is perfect for a ferret room. Keep an inexpensive area rug in the room as well so that the ferrets feet can have different textures to walk upon. Just like dogs and cats...it can be unhealthful for a ferrets feet and joints to walk solely on slippery floors.

Good luck!

Vynel tiles would be ok, or vynel flooring.I would make sure it was unglazed and just Matt finish.I don't know if they like scratching the floor? If they did they might scratch the glaze off and poison themselves. Have you thought about a piece of glass or a mirror bottom?

Vinyl, properly installed, should be fine. Ferrets are diggers, but they don't gnaw like rodents. If a piece of vinyl is loose, I don't guarantee the ferret wouldn't dig it up.

Vinyl worked great for mine; easy to clean, no ferrety odor, and if anything they seemed to love "skating" on it, lol. You can pick up some remnant from a carpet store vey cheap or free to place few "non-skid areas" for them to relax/nap/whatever on, and just toss them in the wash when needed.
