Unless you have an good auto electric shop in your area Your better off swapping out your alternator for a re-manufactured one with the best warranty possible. AC Delco re-manufactured alternators have lifetime warranty's. Usually it costs the same amount as above for an electric shop to split the frame of the alternator replace brushes clean the commutator and replace any anodes or diodes it may need. AC Delco re-manufactured alternators cost about $200.00 exchange. If you'd have given your make and model of car we could have given you an exact price.
They are simple as pie to replace. They come with pulleys.

Depending on where you are and the type of car, a rebuilt can go from around $100 - $200 or more for new. That does not include labor. Which will most likely double those prices.

Tell us your problem. How do you know it's the alternator ?? Lot's of things cause battery / starting problems. My last alternator (rebuilt) was less than $50

anywhere from $40. to $150. depending if you buy a rebuilt one or new one, then add installation charges on top of that if you can't do it yourself.
