question! if you turn the fan by hand will it begin to turn? does the fan make a noise when you turn it? is it hot? if the motor is hot chances are you just need to replace it. if the motor runs when you spin it by hand it is a capacitor called a start capacitor. cheap fix. it could be a run capacitor if it fails to stay running. best thing to do is call a quality company out for a service call. ask for the price up front on the service call.

first thing i would do is oil it with a good 20 or 30 weight oil...some hardware`stores sell an oil called zoom spout that is very good for electric motors...if motor does same thing and the ac is less than 13000 btu i would just go buy a new one....a replacement motor for any small ac is about the same price as the ac after you add labor and the capacitor to the price....never use 3 in 1 oil to oil electric motors..

The easy answer is to replace unit.
The blower fan bushings or bearings may be going out. Or the motor for the fan needs work.

Check the run capacitor, if it is good then the motor is probably bad. The bearings on the motor are probably going bad. For more info check out the window ac page at my source.
