I just opened a Facebook account instead of MySpace after seeing that Facebook seems much more strict on what they will show to a casual websurfer or to a registered Facebook member. The best I could do there when I found a person of interest is just see a very small profile photo of him/her (provided they have one), their full name, and only the list of Facebook Friends they have. Can't go any further unless he/she adds you as a Friend before you can see more stuff from them.

MySpace seems a lot more looser unless the user sets their page to private, otherwise anyone - registered or not - can see what you have and what information may be valuable to them, pertinent and/or incriminating (like embarrassing photos).

I'm concerned that when I apply for jobs, employers will attempt to research me on the 'net, and I read countless stories about employers using MySpace to research candidates. I figure Facebook is too restrictive for them to dig in.

Did I make the right choice?

You should consider your profile public, don't put anything there that would ruin you.

I don't have a myspace profile. A facebook profile gives you a lot of control over who can see what, but you might one day add something incriminating in a drunken stupor and put in on your wall when you thought it was on your blog. Or you might accept the employer's friend request without thinking and reveal everything. Or facebook/myspace might flick the wrong switch or reset your privacy settings or be acquired by someone less privacy-oriented.

In other words, don't assume you can control what you put out there.

Well I'm not sure what you're hiding that you'd choose to run your OWN LIFE based on what may or may not happen in the future.

You're worried that a potential boss may look you up on either MySpace or Facebook. Who friggin cares!! Why don't you just make your profile private and move on with your life.

Don't make your decisions in life based on something that may never happen!!!

My sister uses myspace and never had a problem landing a job. It just all depends on what you post on there.
