this trip is through my school, and although it is a catholic school, i am not going to sell my faith, i am going to work with children in an orphanage in Peru, run by the Nuns who run my school.

oh I apologize about that. I thought you were one of those people going around preaching. It's good that you want to help kids in need. Just say that then. I want to help children. Be honest about your feelings and you will get in.

I agree with the earlier post that said to include your strengths and weaknesses, but I would frame the strengths in a way that would be beneficial to the mission (i.e., how you could use them for the good of others) and talk about how you've turned weaknesses in to positives, and how you could use that hard-earned knowledge in the mission. Instead of writing about what a great person you are, write about what the trip means to you. How it will enrich your life. How commited you are. What it means to you as a Christian. How you think this trip will affect your world perspective and your future. Answer all these and include a short paragraph explaining that you feel you can handle responsibility and you are dedicated to your church, academic career and your community.

You have to brag a bit if you want to be chosen. Tell them what your strengths are and what your weeknesses are. Be sure to lean heavier on the strengths. (What you are good at.) Maybe you could start by saying my friends, parents and/or teachers tell me I am good at __________ but not very good at ________.
