Are Black Roses Real

Roses and Tulips come close, but no cigar. Flowers that are described as “black” are actually deep Maroon or dark Plum. Some sound black, but aren't -- Black Magic, for instance. Petal pigments include Flavonoids (Reds, Violets, Blues), Carotenoids (Yellows and Oranges), and Green Chlorophyll. They combine in Nature and yield a spectrum of many colors. The pH of the petals has a strong influence on the final color. But Black is biologically impossible in flowers, including Roses. There are simply no Black pigment molecules in plants or their flowers. Mixing available pigments can get very close, however. A novel called "The Black Tulip", written by Alexandre Dumas in 1850, centered on a reward to anyone in the Dutch city of Haarlem who could grow a black Tulip.

Nope! No such thing as a black rose, although even apart from picture enchancement, there's a trick you can do with certain flowers by splitting the bottom of the stem and stickign each part into a different food coloring mix, it'll absorb throught he flower and through the petals. It works with carnations, not so sure about roses.
