I put a ad in the recycler to get more business for my welding and tiling company. And a company called me saying that they can get me 2-5 jobs a month but I have to pay a fee of $150.00 a month.Have you ever heard of something like this and does it really work?

Money up front sounds like a scam.

Sounds scammish to me. I would not pay them until I had received payment from those jobs and there was a way to verify that those jobs came from the referral company.

Ask them how they get 2-5 jobs per month. Ask them how you would know the jobs came from them. Is it some sort of coupon? Can you get a better deal if you just made your own coupon and put it in the paper? How do they guarantee that you will receive the extra jobs?

I would ask them for references as well. Call and check each of them. Make sure they send you about 5-10 of them. It would be better if you can actually visit the people and talk to them directly. That way, you know the company is not just giving out numbers of its employees who will lie about past work.

Also, check out the Better Business Bureau. They should be listed with them and have a clean record. If they do not have either then tell them no.

All in all, I would avoid these guys. They called you out of the blue. That is never a good sign. Do you call potential customers up out of the blue and ask them if they are interested in your services? I bet not. Then why do these guys do it?
