My mother had one. It was just a lot of trouble to use, something else bulky to store. I recommend the zip locks.

I bought a vacuum sealer for $5 at a yard sale. Works great. I get the bags at Walmart. I truly believe that removing the air helps prevent freezer burn. I still use zip-lock bags for short term storage or something I will be using within a week or so. I cut the vacuum bags along the seal and wash and reuse them. Placing a marinade in the vacuum bags and sealing is a fast way to get the taste all the way through the meat fast.

Yes, I love mine!!
I vacuumed fresh caught Salmon and a year later I cooked it and it tasted just as fresh!!!
The stuff I had in zip lock bags only last a few months and was caked with ice inside the bag the vacuum bag was perfect.

The vacuum sealers are great, love them for meats that you are going to freeze, they are expensive and the bags aren't cheap but they do work well.

I use both methods. I use ziploc bags for short term storage and vaccuum sealer for longer, and expensive cuts of meat.

wash and reuse the vaccuum bags cuts down on expense.
