Basil plants reproduce by seeds. They often self-seed, meaning wait for "volunteers" before you buy new plants next spring. Cuttings will root in water and that is a good way to keep fresh basil indoors through the winter.

You can buy basil seeds, Basil likes warm weather. It is too late to plant outside in the north of the US,

By seed or easily by cuttings. We had one at work that was under a light and was getting too tall, My friend took cuttings and they rooted almost immediately. One thing you need to know about basil is that it does not like cold.
