Banana spider is a misnomer - usually only called that in Florida as a common term among laymen but Banana spiders are actually indigenous to Central and South America (NOT Florida) and are very, very poisonous to humans.
This picture is some kind of orb weaver from the Argiope family.. not sure what kind you killed - because you said this isn't the picture of the spider YOU killed.
Either way, they're harmless.

Do a search for spiders, there are a lot of websites that give very good pictures and descriptions of spiders

It's harmless. You were cruel to spray it with insecticide. You'd do the poor thing a favor by crushing it to put it out of it's misery. Why do people automatically kill spiders? They are very helpful,as they eat many insects. Really, what harm was it doing to you, just living on your deck? Shame on you!

I would say that next time find out what it is before you kill it. whatever it is it is completely harmless to you and would be a beautiful addition to your garden.
