Alright so today in Multi-cultural History class we watched a documentary about the history of Rock n Roll.. And I realized that alot of the stuff that was happening back then to Rock n Roll is happening to Hip-hop/Rap now.

For example: When rock and roll first came out everyone thought it was Crap, stupid songs, etc.
There wasnt alot of followers of True Rock n Roll..

So before you say "Rap is crap" and it isnt real music and all that stuff, go watch that documentary.. and know that it is just going thru the same phase

U guys stole Rock n roll from African Americans anyway, people like Little Richard, Muddy Waters, Fats Domino and people like that started rock n roll. So u guys should be thankful

to Tbone:

Oh and i suppose singing about doing cocaine and having huge sex parties, commiting suicide, getting totally wasted and smashing everything to pieces is alot better right??

All Hip-Hop isnt about doing illegal stuff.. I wasnt trying to hate on Rock in the first place, im just tired of everyone saying rap is crap and stuff like that.. There are different Genres..

Everyone who is a emcee/ Rapper doesnt talk about selling drugs u dimwit, I could make just as big of an argument about the bad stuff in Rock too.. Who wants to hear someone scream in your ear anyway?

To the person above, true, there are white rappers, and have been for some time. More surprisingly, for you at least, there are rappers who don't come from the ghetto, don't confine themselves to topics such as women, sex, or drugs (topics that many rock bands have also beaten to death), and many in the rap underground are well-educated, literate, and most importantly, respected. El-P's last album has contributions from Trent Reznor, Omar and Cedric of The Mars Volta, Matt Sweeney, Cat Power, and James McNew. Artists seem to take art more seriously than their fans, and for them there's no need to waste time with an imaginary competition.

Ok your description is full of holes. The relationship between Hip - Hop, Rap, Rock'n'Roll to African Americans has nothing to do with anything. There are white rap and hip-hop guys and black rockers. I live in a heavily populated area that listens to Hip-Hop and i can give multiple reasons as to why rock is surperior. First off, what kind of role model wants to promote a life where you go off with a gang, shoot or get shot, then go to jail. Thats insane. Secondly, people who listen to rap and hip hop, have no bases, and nothing to come back to, they are just phases where this artist, then the next one, then the one after that and that dosent mean anything. Rock and Metal always could resort back to the blues and way back into classical with Beethoven and Bach. Rock/Metal has a meaning and purpose, unlike hip-hop and rap. Its about standing up for what you believe in and i'll be damned if it didn't change the world. And i'd rather live in a world thats driven by passion and talent than a ghetto where you have no purpose. thats why.

why does everyone pick on the rock people?

originally........rap was great......I love the material from the 80s.... Krs-One, Afrika Bambaataa, Whodini, Public Enemy.........but it is a 20 year old genre......going through the ups and downs that every artform goes through

please don';t start the you stole from us stuff.......the actions of a few don't represent the whole group

The black man invented rock n roll, but the white man invented rap music. So, you should be thankful too.
