Plug it in.

1. y = 8 - 6 - 2

y = 0

2. y = 2 - 3 - 2

y = -3

_______________________________

1. 0 = 2x^2 + 3x - 2

0 = (2x^2 + 4x) - (x+2)

0 = 2x(x+2)-(x+2)

0 = (2x-1)(x+2)

x = -2, y = 0

x = 1/2, y = 0

you plug it in. since we know x= -2 then everywhere you see a x put -2 in.

...

y= 2(-2)squared + 3(-2) - 2
first you do exponents and -2 sqared is a positive 4

y=2(4) + 3(-2) - 2
next you multiply 2 times 4 and 3 times -2
y=8 + 6 - 2
then you just simplify
8+6 = 14
14- 2= 12

y=12

----------------------------------------
now u just do everything the same except instead of using -2 for x you'll use -1

y= 2(-1)squared + 3(-1)-2

exponents first

y= 2(1) + 3(-1)-2

multiply 2nd

y= 2 - 3 - 2

simplify 3rd

2-3= -1
-1-2= -3

y=-3
-------------------

if you were wondering why i did exponents first and then multiplied and then added/subtracted in a certain order, it was because i was following the order of operation

a way to remember is Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally

P= parathesies ex. y= (2+3) x 4 you would do 2+3 first
E= exponents ex. x= 2squared x 5 you would do 2squared first
M= multiplying
D= Division
A= addition
S= subtraction

just remember that for multiplying and division you just go from left to right and do them both so it doesn't really matter which order you do them in as long as your going from left to right and you do them before addition and subtraction.

same for addition and subtraction. it doesn't matter if you do addition before you just do which ever comes first from left to right as long as you do it after multiplying and division

hope this helped!

( -*- = + ; -*+ = - and +*+ = +) so,

substitute -2 for x

y = 2(-2)2 + 3(-2) -2
= 2(+4) + (-6) -2
= 8 - 6 - 2
= 0

substitue -1 for x

y = 2(-1)2 +3(-1) -2
= 2 (1) + (-3) - 2
= 2 - 3 - 2
= 2 - 2 - 3
= -3.

y = 0, -3. (this is how you present your answer.)

When x= -2
y=2*-2²+(3*(-2))-2
y=2*4+(-6-2)
y=8+(-8)
y=8-8
y=0

When x= -1
y=2*-1²+(3*(-1))-2
y=2*1+(-3-2)
y=2-5
y=-3

1.
y = 2(-2)^2 + 3(-2) -2
y = 2(+4)-6 -2
y = 8 - 6 -2
y = 0

2.
y = 2(-1)^2 +3(-1) - 2
y = 2(+1) - 3 -2
y = 2 - 3 -2
y = -3
