What gets me is that many women complain about the possibility of her azz falling in to the bowl. And I've heard of it happening too.
Can they be that incompetant that they don't even look first? Do they just back in to the bathroom azz-first, with blinders on? How hard is it to drop a toilet seat? Seriously?
I mean, I can understand why most women don't know how to change a flat tire, will refuse to check the oil levels in their cars, don't know how to change a washer in a faucet, and can't replace a fuse in a circuit-breaker -- but how hard is it really to put a toilet seat down before she does her business?

There is an inherent misunderstanding within the question. The assumption made is that men "must" lift the seat to urinate. Once one realizes men do not the toilet seat position becomes a shared responsibility. The reason men lift the toilet seat is to avoid accidentally peeing on it. When that is communicated/understood, the touching of a toilet seat for women to lower it becomes a shared responsibility. Of course, the owner/renter of the apartment/home should have their wishes respected - my house my rules sort of thing. A man at the place of a female should put it back down but a woman at a males should be aware that backing in without looking could result in splash down. The other side of the coin is that females tend to have a lower centre of gravity. As a result, they tend to fall in when a toilet seat is up. Many men, I can't say all, would likely be able to balance on the rim should they attempt to sit with seat up. I know I have sat without falling in when the seat was up.

I want the toilet seat down not because of feminism but because (1) I don't like looking into an open toilet bowl and (2) I don't want my pets drinking out of the toilet. That's why I want the seat down with the lid on top of it.

I identify myself as a feminist in that I believe that we live in world that still oppresses women in certain regions. I also believe that after eons of an unbalanced system it is still vital that women vioce the injustices of our sisters who cannot do it themselves. I am also a devoted stay at home mother of 4 beautiful children including 1 son and 3 daughters ,i am in no way anti male infact I love men and the assets they bring to our shared world. There are many valid arguments 4 feminism but I get annoyed just as you do that certain women use their womanhood for ridiculous arguments such as the toilet seat down,[I mean come on , whats the point],why should one sexes preference over shadow anothers. My partner and son have equal billing on the toilet seat drama, its a simple matter of pushing it down or pulling it up, is that so difficult. The world has real issues that need fixing and I'm sick of women ,[who 4 the most part are not feminist but manipulative and confused young women],using their sexuality 2 confuse and undermine men. A true feminist believes in self responsiblity not a predetermined superiority. So boys continue to leave the seat up, and tell those women to get a grip.

I could honestly care less if it is up or down. It only takes a second to put the thing down and I have much more pressing issues to deal with on a daily basis than a toilet seat. :)

Dude! Its a toilet! If you left the seat up it means you left the lid up when you flushed it too. Millions of microbes from your toilet were swirled around up into the air and landed on everything in your bathroom.
gross!

Frankly, the seat and lid should be down when not in use. It is unsightly and unsanitary to flush a toilet when not closed.
I am now imagining your bathroom with dribbles of urine running down the outside of the bowl and a nasty ring in the bowl as well. It's obvious that if you are too lazy to put the seat and lid down, you surely are too lazy to clean the damn thing!

We used to have a sign in our bathroom that demanded, to :"Leave the toilet seat up!" This was in the late 70's when we were attempting to be more equal in demands of the sexes!

You know, in all our 14 years of marriage, I have never known my husband to leave the toilet seat up.

The toilet has 2 basic uses. One of them is urination, the other is defecation. Men perform one of them standing, the other sitting, women perform BOTH of them sitting. Thus, in combination, 3/4 of the actions performed by men and women on the toilet are with the seat DOWN. Why therefore is it so objectionable to KEEP the seat down, since 75% of the actions at that seat involve the seat being down?

I just put the seat down and close the lid. This way the bit has to lift it up, the same as i have to put it down, only I have gravity assist.
