Fake is the wrong word. Scripted is a much better word. All the matches are decided before hand. That's not to say that wrestlers aren't athletes. Their bodies take more abuse than other athletes. They practise their moves but things can still go wrong and they can get hurt. I've heard that sometimes staged injuries are used as a way to get the wrestler some much needed time off. My hats are off to anybody who can withstand the pressures of being a wrestler--time away from home (sometimes 200+ days), the travel and the wear and tear on their bodies.

Wrestling is not fake but it is scripted and like you said many people don't realize that. These amazing athletes work their butts off to perform for us and put their bodies on the line and go through great amounts of pain. They deserve a lot more respect than they are usually given.

Storylines, feuds, gimmicks, etc. are generally faked, and matches are predetermined and thought out beforehand.
You can't fake the pain and possible injuries suffered from taking moves, however, no matter how much you are trained in order to prevent it.

It is fake to an certain point. Yes the injuries are real and they really do get hurt in the matches. They don't really hate each other or want to hurt each other though.

Yes most of it is generally fake, but like when Triple H does a pedigree or Double A spinebuster his knees are whats taking the shock from the fall, thats how he got injured, think about it.

It's mostly scripted and works a lot like stunts in a movie.
Real injuries are caused when someone misses a cue or is out of place...
