I havea 400 watt peavey corporate addition head and 2 large full range peavey sp-2 (they have a sub and a bell and sound great in my opinion) I am trying to gig as a mobile dj and have put several ads on craigs list that tend to not result in any kind of work (gigs off of craigs list, currently: 0) I send quotes and in the quote include details of the equipment i am taking with me, thinkning that this will justify the charge ( i normally ask $100 an hour (but in all honesty would be flexible if asked, that just doesn't sound like good negotiating to me) ) but i get asked for quotes, provide one and never hear from people again. Plenty of other djs are charing more than i am asking and i feel that given the amount of expense i put in and preperation i put towards my events, that the cost would be justified. i have seen plenty of bad djs (notably a gentleman who called my friend by the wrong name when introducing him and more) and these people are asking more and getting jobs. WTF? help

The size of the PA system isn't what counts, it's the sound.

You need to expand your networking, get out to talk to bar owners, etc. to get your name out there. Keep business cards with you at all times. Check with bridal stores and see if they keep a grouping of business cards for stuff like that, etc.

People don't know what the equipment specs are, don't even mention them, just let them know you have the full system needed. $100 seems ok. Is it your approach or your closure that puts people off do you think? Are you sounding too desperate? Be professional at all times, no cutting down of other DJ's (not in front of customers!) and be relaxed and friendly at all times.

Post business cards at record stores on their bulletin boards, with party stores (Bartz's Display if you have them in your area), anywhere someone would be shopping for a party or be likely to need your services. With Christmas coming up you also can drop off a business card at large businesses to get a contact for Xmas parties.
