0.39s + 4.30 = 13.66

to eliminate decimals multiply with 100

39 s + 430 = 1366

subtract 430

39s = 1366 - 430

= 936

divide by 39

s = 936/39

= 24

2)

let the lost games = x

gemes won = x + 8

total games = games lost + games won

= x + x + 8

= 2x + 8

so 2x + 8 = 78

2x = 78 - 8

2x = 70

2)

let the passengers in third bus = x

passengers in first bus = x - 4

passengers in second bus = x - 4

total passengers = x + x - 4 + x - 4

= 3x - 8

so 3x - 8 = 100

3x = 108

0.39s + 4.30 = 13.66
0.39s = 13.66 - 4.30 = 9.36
0.39s = 9.36
s = 9.36/0.39 = 24.0 the Answer !!!!

2.
Win(w) = Lost(l) + 8
w = l + 8
w + l = 78

therefore substituting 'w' we have
l + 8 + l = 78
2l + 8 = 78
2l = 78 - 8 = 70
2l = 70
l = 70/2 = 35

3.
'B'' b' for greater / lesser number of passengers.

B + 2b = 100

But B = b + 4
So
b + 4 + 2b = 100
3b + 4 = 100
3b = 96
b = 32 (the bus with 4 fewer passengers)
B = 36 (the bus with four more than 'b')
Verification:-

36 + 32 + 32 = 100 As required.
3B = 100 - 8
3B = 92
B

1. 0.39s+4.30=13.66
-4.30 -4.30

0.39s=9.36

divide by .39 on both sides

s=24

2. let x= number of games they lost
let x+8=number of games they won

x+x+8=78

3. let x=how much each of the first TWO buses can carry
let x+4= how much the third bus can carry

x+x+x+4=100
