i am 16 years old. in 11th grade and i dont really ever know what i want...i am VERY easily influenced by others' decisions and i can NEVER make up my mind! i dont really know what i want if i would graduate this year (@ the young age of 17) i guess i would go to college! i JUST became VISE PRESIDENT of FBLA (future business leaders of AMerica) and in order to graduate early, i would have to DROP OUT OF BOCES and leave my opportunity of FBLA...........however most of the things that i do i dont even know WHY i do them or if they are what i REALLY want! i DONT KNOW WHAT I WANT!

HELP! my teachers (that i know give me GOOD advice) think i shouldnt leave school early, because doing so would ONLY expose me to the working world too early! they think i would be missing out. i DONT KNOW I DONT KNOW! i hate having to be adult and i feel like i dont know ANYTHING!!!! PLEASE GIVE ME ADVICE

I hated HS more than you can possibly imagine -- but loved college. If you can get into a good college early, I say go. You won't miss anything in HS. As for having to start working a year earlier -- you can always do an extra year and get a MS or MA.

If you can't get into a good college now -- but can get into a good one in a year -- then wait.

Ok...slow down. If you are capable of graduating early, that can be a good thing. BUt you want to make sure that it's what you really want to do. DO you have a particular college you wish to attend? What about a program of study? Being VP of FBLA will look grad on a college app as well as a resume in the future.

You will only be entering college one year early which is not really that big of a deal. YOu would probably not have much trouble adjusting unlike someone who enters at 15. If you enter the professional world a year earlier then that's great! You will have a jump start on retirement!

If the concern is the working world of most teens (retail, movies, etc) then that is no different than the many teens who work already because mom and dad make them.

Think through what you want to do and make a decision that is right for you...not anyone else. Remember that you could always take AP classes in high school for free and have them count as college credit so you could knock out a semester or two of college and get out of there a year early instead of high school...and have less student loans ot pay back!

Don't let anyone else make the decision for you. You have to decide what is right for you. It is true that you will never get these high school years back, but if you really hate it, staying another year probably isn't going to make you love it.

If you do decide to graduate early, I would recommend you take that time to go somewhere abroad and study. I always wished I would have taken a year off between high school and college and studied somewhere, like Spain or Mexico so I could have become fluent in Spanish. As you get older and into family and career, those types of things become harder to do.

My best friend in high school graduated a semester early and spent that time in Mexico. She improved her Spanish and had a blast. She hated high school, too.

Good luck with your decision and don't second guess yourself.

Academically, I have no idea whether you're ready to graduate or not. Socially, I agree with your teachers. One of the most important things you learn in college is how to be independent and develop life goals; if the idea of making decisions for yourself right now paralyzes you, you're going to be miserable. Even if you decide to take a year off before applying, it helps to have an idea what you want to accomplish during that time, whether it's something you're not going to get a chance to do while studying or a career path you want to explore. Stay in high school and work with a guidance counselor or some other trusted advisors to start developing that independence and figuring out what you want the next step to look like.

yeah, i think you should stay in school and live it up. you will never get these times back. don't cut yourelf short of memories in order to go into the real world. you are young...the real world can wait a little while for you.
