I'm 13 and tomorrow they are offering the gardasil vaccine at our school for free. Should I get it? Please tell me your stories if you have gotten it. Any pain? Any side effects? Since the vaccine is like new I'm a bit scared to get it.. I don't want to find out that it's deadly or anything. Today this girl told me that people have died from it! That really freaked me out. Can someone please clear this for me?

You should do some research and ask your parents what they think. I would be surprised if you can get the shot without your parents approving if you're only 13. The vaccine protects against many of the forms of HPV that cause cervical cancer. As I understand it, you can get HPV from sexual contact, not just intercourse, but contact so it's important to get the shots at a young age. I'm sure there are some possible side effects, the only one I noticed was that the injection hurts for a few minutes after.

I've never heard about anyone dying from it. Don't believe everything you read. If you feel rushed into a decision, wait and take your time. This may mean you pay for the shots, but it will also mean that you know you made the right decision.

I wouldn't take the shot. Gardasil has only been studied for 3 years so the long-term effects of the shot are unknown. Who knows? In 10 or so years from now every woman who has had the shot could end up sterile and not able to have her own children. Think about it. Better be safe than sorry, right? Best of luck!

I would not get it.

It doesn't protect against all cervical cancers.

Its New! Only out a short while, therefore...

We don't have ANY studies on its long term affects!

Please! Research this vaccine, and NOT just on its site! Make sure you know as much about it as you can!
