I've never been on a roller coaster, and I really want to try it! But for some reason, I'm just too scared! I've even chickened out over the small, dinky ones! It's strange because I'm generally not afraid of much, and I'm definitely not afraid of heights, I love to fly, etc. What can I do to overcome my fears? Is there something I can do on the ride to make it less scary? Closing your eyes seems like it would make it worse! Also, can someone tell me what it actually feels like to ride? What feeling do you get when you're cruising down that hill? Do you get butterflies all the way down or just at the beginning? Also, what is a loop like?
Sorry for all the questions! I'm just scared senseless and need some help here!! :O) I'm going to Busch Gardens Europe in a couple weeks (which I love it there), but I know it would be 10 times as fun to ride something! I was thinking about the Big Bad Wolf or the Lochness Monster... Please help!

I used to work at a theme park and I ride them ever day I go to work. What it feels like to be on a roller coaster depends on the person. The first drop is the only thing that scares most people after they pass that the rest of the ride is nothing but excitement and fun. on giant drops you should scream. Screaming actually help you breath while your going down. basically when going down a drop your body is almost floating, and so is the stuff inside you "water, stomach acid, food etc." this is my guess but the air in your lungs is effected as well. it rises up your lungs almost like it's hard to breath. so you scream to let the air out and not have that feeling of not breathing. on drops that turn or twist "like batman the ride and others" you don't feel it as much as a straight drop with not turns. Loops should be the least of your problems, when going through one the gravity actually keeps you in your seat. the big loops might make you feel weightless at the top though. trust me, go on a roller coaster that's the tallest and highest in the park or if your not up to it just go on a ride that's maybe the second tallest and has plenty of loops. the best part of roller coasters is the wind in your face. the weightlessness you feel on top of a hill (airtime) also if your still scared of maintanence and stuff like trains getting stuck on loops don't worry the park would'nt want that to happen so they take extra precaution into testing out the rides even before the park opens. If some stuff do happen that would be bad for the park so they'll try everything to prevent that... All I can say is breath in deep and scream your lungs out and have fun...oh and never close your eyes...you'll be more proned to motion sickness.

Roller coasters feel like Whoo Hooo! Yeah, there are butterfly's at times and g forces at others. The feeling of weighlessness and pushing. Loops are the best cause you know your going upside down. It's like being on a fast swing that goes everywhitch way. I am afraid of heights and flying freaks me out but I love my roller coasters. I went on space mountain when I was a kid and thought it was the worst ride cause I couldn't see anything. You just fell tugging and such but the fear wasn't there. You didn't see that you were about to go off a hundred foot drop. So maybe the first couple times would be good for you to close your eyes. Go and do it. Roller coasters rock! And if you don't enjoy it at least you won't have anymore hankerin to do it. Have fun!

When you are on a roller coaster, first close your eyes when going up, you can feel the suspense rising. When you feel you have got up to the top, open them, you might be able to take a look at the theme park from how high you are, at that time you will feel the urge in the pit of your stomach that you may die, but it is perfectly safe, you start to go down. The rush of the ride tingles your spine and you feel like you are soaring through the air you may feel the urge to say " this is the most awesome ride ever", but you may still have a bunch more to try.
Try not to be scared, you know this is safe, you will not die and you will feel like you have experianced something new.
Don't let fear get to you, whether the ride is dark or may contain fire. It will be fine, You'll thank me for it, if you do it.
If you think you are not ready then it is okay too.
But always try to do things new.

Wow, I LOVE rollar coasters!! I'm usually scared of heights and speed, so most of the time I have to really make myself get on a rollar coaster! I've been on some scary ones, but it's only scary to me when I'm at the very top of a peak looking down.. as you fly down the hill at an unnatural speed, for a moment gravity increases and you feel smooshed to the seat and you feel like you can't even scream! OMGosh, it's a rush! The butterflies only last for a few seconds.. and depending how steep and fast the hill is, they might fly all the way into your head! :) The loops on rollar coasters are really fun! Usually you don't even know that you're upside down!
Hope this helps! You totally need to try tho! You'll have a Blast!!

ok you mentioned for some help to overcome it. This might be stupid but go buy roller coaster tycoon at least the third one I'm not sure but I think you can be one of the people and you can look in their eyes when their riding a roller coaster. you can also try a motion similater in disney. as for the experience it feels great. with all the wind rushing agaisnt my face and the speed and excitment. (I like the extreme roller coasters*
Just try it out one time and if a roller coaster gives you that strange feeling before you ride it don't go on that one. Usually your feelings and instincts are right. You don't have to go the really extreame ones just ride ones that look cool and fun to you. Trust me you'll have a goo time.
good luck

I was like this. Then I went on a roller coaster and it was everything I thought it would be - HELL! Just imagine falling out of the sky. Your stomach turns and it's terrible. But even though I hated every minute of it, I'm glad I did it. I'd never regret it. Why? B/C overcoming your fears is a very rewarding feeling! Better than wallowing in your fear. And you may end up liking the feeling - plenty of people do.
Personally, I still don't like falling over 6 stories. Can you blame me?

Whenever I get in line I ALWAYS get nervous but I think it's more excitement than anything. You have to get over your own fear. Go on a roller coaster no matter how scared you feel. You could try a small one and work your way up or do a big one and prove to yourself you can do it. It feels so kool!

Try to take one of your friends with you on a ride and you will feel less scared with someone next to you. Don't CLOSE YOUR EYES!!! my mom did it once and she got super sick. The feel is so amazing. I love it when there is a zero gravity zone on a ride. Your just floating in your seat. ( I feel like I'm in space!) Its cool when your dropping down to earth. Plus for like the 5 seconds your up on the top of the coaster the view is amazing. You wont belive how much stuff you can see! A Loop is also very cool. Its cool cause your at a different angle!! I'm going to Busch Gardens to!! But not till October. :+( I Ride everything there!. If I where you I would start off at the escape form Pompeii, then go to Loch Ness, Big bad wolf and soo on. You absolutely have to ride Griffon. BEST RIDE ON EARTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck! (My first roller coaster I was like oh my fuc*ing God!!! But after I got off I was like F**K yeah!! lets go again!!)

Listen, please take a deep breath. Take it from a almost 13 year old who is terrified of heights. I've only been on 3 in my life and it was at Disney World for a school fieldtrip. The first thing I was on was Space Mountain. That is sooo twisty and jerky I thought I was going to never make it out. My eyes were closed and I was terrified. When it ended, (my friends heared me yelling f word the whole time xD) my friends were like," Ryan! Are you ok?" and I said.." LET'S DO IT AGAIN!" It's not bad, yeah you get butterflies but you never know until you try it! Don't do one of those huge ones. Do something the size of Space Mountain, or Thunder Mountain. Splash mountain was the most scary for me, because that last drop makes you get butterflies so bad. Just don't be scared, and try it. Once you do, you will wish you were never scared your whole life!
