I think I may be coming down with my first UTI. For the past 24 hours or so I keep feeling like my bladder is full, even when it isn't, and it burns a little when I urinate. I've been drinking a lot of water and cranberry juice, cleaning the area with anti-bacterial soap, wearing cotton underwear, and taking AirBorne. Is there anything else I can do to help fight it off? Is there anything I can get over the counter for it? At what point should I see a doctor? I just started a new job and don't have health insurance yet, so I don't want to go to one if I can avoid it. Also, I'm currently menstruating and am wondering what type of feminine hygiene I should use. Thanks for the advice!

AirBorne is an immune boosting supplement. It contains vitamins, minerals, and herbs, and comes in a tablet that you dissolve in water. Most people use it during cold/flu season, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to try it for my UTI. Thanks everyone, I've been getting some great advice!

If you don't have the full symptoms of a UTI yet, then continue doing what your doing that should help, but if it worsens then the only thing that will treat it and make it go away is to see a doctor and get some antibiotics. Also if it worsens to help with the burning and frequency of using the restroom at any drugstore (wal-green, wal-mart, etc.) they have these pills called AZO cranberry that help really well. They do make your urine a orange color but it works!!

It isn't true that you necessarily need an antibiotic for UTIs - in fact, they do absolutely nothing for some people. You are already on the right lines (though I don't what 'AirBorne' is, and I would avoid using ANY soap on the area - just warm water). What I would also try is drinking warm water with about half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) mixed in to half a pint. Tastes absolutely vile, but really does help to change the acidity levels in your urine - it was the only thing that ever got me through, as my infection would come back the moment I stopped taking the antibiotic while it would go completely after three days of the bicarb/baking soda three times a day.
If the bicarb/baking soda and everything else you're doing doesn't improve things in 24 hours, go to the doctor. Take a fresh urine sample with you to speed up the process.

I feel so bad for you, I get them all the time they are miserable! There is an over the counter medicine you can take, just ask your pharmacist. There is also a Cranberry vitamin you can take daily to keep your tract cleansed. I started taking them daily and haven't had one in over a year. If you start to urinate blood it's normal for this type of infection but if you have a local women's clinic in the area I would see if you can get in there.
Good Luck!

The only way to cure yourself of a UTI is through antibiotics from your doctor. A UTI is a bacterial infection that will keep recurring unless treated. Go see a doctor. To help prevent a UTI in the future clean yourself regularly especially within a reasonable amount of time after intercourse. Drinking cranberry or pomegranate juice can also help due to the high acid content in the juices.

hi .. your on the right track if you have a urinary infection.. They also have in the vitamin section cranberry pills you can take and they do work good. I wouldn't let it go on no more than seven days before you see a doctor or after your period is done then go in an see your Dr. , but don't let it go on any longer than the seven days.

For most UTIs you need antibiotics so you need to see your doctor. Increase your fluid intake and keep passing urine because if you don't your abdomen will become distended and you will become very sick.
