Theres offense and defense. On offense, the Center gives the ball through his legs to the Quarterback. He can either throw it to what are called Wide Receivers, or just hand it to the Running Back and let him run with it. 5 men block so the defense cant tackle him. There are 4 downs. You have 3 oppertunites to get a 1st down, or gaining ten yards, or you have to kick it to the other team.
On defense, there are 3 or 4 guys in a 3 point stance, the defensive linemen (one hand touching the ground.) When the Quarterback on the other team says hike and gets the ball, they rush him, trying to tackle him before he throws it or hands it off. 3 or 4 guys, the linebackers, stand behind the defensive linemen and either rush the QB or can cover incase of a pass. Cornerbacks are the guys that try to stop the other team from catching it. Safeties cover the whole field. Thats pretty much it

first you need a good t.v. with cable and or satilite service.
go to the store get munchies, beer, soda's etc.
next call up some friends and family have them come over. a few that know and understand the game is always helpful.
now comes the fun part. watch the games and ask questions when something happens that you dont understand.
as far as who the best players and teams are. that one is up to you and your favorites, which will come as you watch and learn.
just remember one thing, that is as a fan our biggest job is to enjoy the game. even if your team loses.

why would u want to understand it. It's a sport of barbaric proportions. Even the players hearts are cold as pewter. It's violence in a helmet. Why care? Spend your time doing more profitable things. Commiting suicide under shoulder pads or watching others do the same, thats what American Football is. Killing brain cells everytime u know.
