I see all the time where Liberals try to down grade Bush for reading "My Pet Goat" during the 9/11 attacks. My question is what do elementary school students want to be read? I have a nine year old and I know he would not want me to read "War and Peace" to him. So why do you think it is a bad thing to read age approprate books to school students?

I bet if we go back in time to the Liberal Hero Billy Bob, I bet we can find him reading a book like that...or the way Hilary talked down to her audience in Alabama by faking a Southern Accent...please enlighten me...

Ok now I see...well let me tell you this, I was in the Army then...no one knew for that period of time if it was an attack or an accident...we did not lock down post for almost an hour...hind sight is 20/20 isn't it...what about Clinton failing to do something for 8 years? We were attacked several different times...and he did nothing but let a fat chick service him and blow up a tent and an asprin factory...say what you mean...I do...when I talk about inaction, I will talk about inaction...not elude to something childish...now I see where you all are coming from...I am by far not a real Bush supporter, he has his pros and cons...but a lot less cons than Clinton...or the hose beast Hilary...sigh that...

Well I hate to tell you, what was he suppose to do? Order the military to start shooting down plane? Do any of you realize how long it takes to get something like that put into motion? You have to alert the pilots, load the planes, and take off...remember how long it took for all the other planes to land? He took the action he was suppose to take...we had SF in the desert within 24 hours...at that time there was not a group of planes waiting to take off to attack threats within our boards...so in all reality the argument does not make sense...

Most of the respondents have adequately expressed that the choice of reading material wasn't the issue. Rather it was the amount of time it took for Bush to get off his butt and do something. The only thing I'd like to add is that I noticed Bush didn't spend any time in a classroom reading along with precious tykes before or after 9/11. Almost as though someone wanted him in a nice, nurturing situation when the s**t hit the fan.

You missed the punchline. Reading the book wasnt the problem - his lack of action after hearing about the attacks was.

After hearing about the attacks from an advisor, he kept on reading to the kids instead of excusing himself politely, and rushing to some command bunker to monitor the attack on the country that he leads. It was a mini-Katrina moment of inaction on his part.

The book was fine, as was the original purpose of his visit. His proirities should have changed the second he heard about the attacks.

I see by the rant after your question that you are not that eductated. Clintons admin did more than any other admin to fight terrorism. It's fact, look it up as I refuse to do the research for the uneducated anymore. You also mention you were in the army. Just more proof that the US enlists and sends to war the uneducated and poor.

I'd kind of like to know from any of the above posters who criticize Bush for finishing his visit with the kids, what, exactly, is it that Bush could have done that would have made any difference at all in the events of 9/11 by rushing to some "command bunker" or some other place? All responses to events like that are covered by contingency planning, operations plans, and emergency action checklists. Was Bush supposed to countermand the years of planning responses to such events and personally take charge of all response actions.

If that is the way you truly think, you need to take a large dose of reality. I appreciated the fact that Bush was able to stay calm and not freak out when told of the events. That is the mark of a good leader, not someone who blindly starts issuing orders based on little or no real information.

LOL. There was nothing wrong with the selection of the book. People were just surprised that he continued to read the book when he had just been told his country was under attack.

Bet you're getting a bunch of dumb answers for this one from liberals. What could President Bush had done during the attacks? He's not superman, just a human. The President demonstrated that he cares about the next generation by reading at the school. Should anyone protest reading to kids? It seems very petty and immature.

I suspect most people saw Bush's reading to children at all as laughable. The man is a war monger. He doesn't give a hoot about what book kids are reading, well, he might like might like to read "When Johnny Got His First Gun." Bush's advisors probably told him, "this is a great photo op, so we gave you a real easy book to read, so DON'T screw it up!"

*sigh*

The issue was NOT the choice of book bush was reading but the fact that

THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES SAT STILL FOR 24 MINUTES

AFTER

AFTER

AFTER

BEING TOLD BY SECRET SERVICE THAT AMERICA HAD JUST BEEN ATTACKED.

*sigh*

************************************
To Pink Angel: Sorry, luv. The President of the United States gets no free pass for "going into shock."

The President of the United States must perform under pressure and make split-second decisions when told "The country is under attack."

"Not scare the children?"

Please.

Better to scare the children than have the children burnt to toast in a nuclear attack.

What happened that day is inexcusable. And a PERFECT crystallized moment characterizing bush to a tee.

A gutless moron.
*****************************
To private deek: Actually my blood pressure is admirably low, always has been. My doctor tells me it's from "living the good life."

And as for "killing jihadists worldwide" I think you made a typo. It should have been "CREATING jihadists worldwide."

It's verified. It's actual data. Terrorism has increased like 400% worldwide since bush's idiocy of the Iraq invasion.

You don't read much, do you?
*********************

EDIT: "how that works" is that it DOESN'T.

For every person you kill - they have brothers and sisters and mothers and fathers and neighbors and co-workers and sons and daughters and.......

you see how that works?

Should the leader of a country be reading children's books while the country is under attack, in an emergency situation?

Why is it that you see nothing wrong with this?

Do not fail me again.

Hey, I don't downgrade Bush for reading that book. I think he's a lot smarter than people make him out to be. I think they try to criticize him for his reaction to the news of the attacks. I would hope it was the shock that made him shut down like that and focus on what he was doing. I mean, what was he supposed to do, scare the kids? People react in shock in different ways. I don't like him, but he IS human.

And for the record, I'm a liberal and I have no use for Billy Bob, as you refer to him. He was probably reading "The idiot's Guide to NAFTA"
