The last house I rented was a small 2 BR, and I mean small. My electric in the summer average about $190-250 and my gas was about $30; in winter electric was about $95 with gas being about $150. So $200 for both isn't bad.

If you mean monthly each for a one bed house - then yes. If you mean annually for a ten bedroom house with heated pool then it seems remarkably good value.

Any chance of us being told:

$200 EACH or together?
Monthly, Quarterly ?
Size of house / Flat / apartment?
How warm is your state ?
How well insulated is the place?

Until we know the answers to these questions, the most convincing answer might only be a wild guess - as no-one has a CLUE as to the circumstances.

The warmest state and the coldest state have VERY different heating needs.

Candaian $ or USD ?

Give us a few clues here please.

that is a VERY broad question. The answer depends on many factors - size of the building, is it residential or commercial, is this for heating/cooling/appliances/hot water, what is the climate where the structure is located, etc. $200 could be a bargain for some situations and a ransom in others.

Please give more details.

I've been paying that much for several years now.
I would love to stop paying it. Yes I think it's too high. But I don't know the costs involved in generating, converting, storing, or transporting and maintaining these things. Not to mention the silly costs of putting someone next to a telephone to answer all my questions from these companies.

I do. I pay $500 a month in electric alone. The gas bill is $500 every 2 months. It is outrageous!

In which country's currency? And compared to what? For what period? For how much gas and electricity? For what are you using it? Are you spending most of that because you're not content with your ambient temperature? If so, then yes, you are paying too much because you are using too much. What's unreasonable is your energy usage, not the price of energy.

not sure mine is just under 50 for gas and just over 15 for electricty but it's only Summer -- winter can be double for Gas but electric only rises slightly ... I couldn't afford what you pay -- but have a high efficency furnace --

Depends how big your house is, where you live, how many people live in that house, if you have a heated pool or spa, etc. etc.

Al Gore spends more.
