You don't have to go to college to be an actress, however anyone in the industry will tell you until you have made it big you should have something else to fall back on. It is always wise to have a plan b. Besides you might get into acting and decide that directing or production is more your thing. It would be good to have a college education for things such as those. You definately want to have more things workin for you than none.

A lot of people will say no, but it sure does help for a number of reasons. Number one, it gives you a well-rounded view of the world, which is good information to have for all the characters you want to play.

It helps you develop socially.

Finally, it gives you an opportunity to study theatre. You should have a solid knowledge of the history of the profession you want to pursue. Also, you can have an additional empasis to give you other skills- Education, for instance. That way, you can teach or do something else between acting work.

Why do some people here seem to feel that acting is a profession that requires no training? It shows an extreme lack of respect and understanding for the craft.

The noes have it! You can always go to college, but you may not always have the freedom and energy to be an actor. Colleges are actually harmful in that they really waste your time and money when you could be preparing to act. And you don't want something to fall back on, because that is what you will do instead of becoming an actor.

It isn't required, though it would help. Actresses such as Keira Knightley dropped out of high school and never went to a college, so it isn't a necessity.

No, but it helps, if you are serious aobut acting. Agents like to see that an actor studied acting at a quality college or university.

It does not hurt. Any contact you can make with people who are not like you is very good. It gives you a much more rounded out look at any situation. Most people judge from a very limited position. That is a waste of time.

You really don't NEED it but it can help. It is something good to put on your resume. It also gives you experience performing if you're lacking that because any dramatic arts program will make you be in plays to graduate.

No. Most famous actresses didn't attend college for acting! It's still a good idea if you can afford it, though. Good luck!
