I do what they say, usually, If they are the boss
but I don't stick around to pat them on the back, or make conversation, screw em,,

Ya know, there isn't enough info in the question. Is this an on-line person? A boyfriend between just started and 6 months? been together 6 months to 2 years? been together many years? Have they always been obsessive/controlling, or is this just recent? Is it a friend or a coworker?
See, there are way too many variables... my answer would be different for each situation.... although, I will admit my answer would probably lead to more questions.....

Tell them that your allergic to clingy people. If someone just needs space, they have to back off or lose that person completely.
