I think it was pure genius.

I say this as someone who doesn't care one way or another for OSU and isn't interested in college football anyway.

1) By blasting her publicly it sent a message to the rest of the media that he would protect his players and to stay away from their personal lives.

2) Blasting her publicly will help with recruiting. Imagine you are a kid on the fence between OSU and another school. All things being equal you may favor the coach who will defend his players.

I loved seeing the media lit up for their arrogance and I think he is a genius for doing it the way he did.

A better question is who thinks the Sports Media and their associations are a bunch of babies? Give me a break... quote from Sports Writer Assn " matter should have been handled in a private manner". Carslon is complaining that Gundy made a personal attack on her. HELLLLOOOOO! Thats how sports writers make a living. What an idiot. She should just shut up about it like Mike did. Instead she has to go on GMA and whine to Diane Sawyer about the big, bad coach who yelled at me. No wonder... she works for the Daily Jokelahoman.

Ed. note... I think Rhett Bomar was behind it all to take attention off his return to OK. I hope the Pokes beat him so hard his ancestors feel it.

He's standing up for his players. I feel that coaches should be able to do this without the feeling that they would be looked down at. Mike Gundy did an outstanding job. I feel that if it were a high ranked team this would not have been all over the place.

Mike Gundy is one of the most respected coaches right now in all of college football. In that locker room, I can bet your top dollar that his players respect him so much and will play as hard as they can to get him wins under his belt. If I was a player and saw how one of my coaches had my back like that I would do anything to win for that coach. He stood up for his players and will not let anybody especially jenni carlson put his players down in any kind of way and take cheap shots at them like that.

He's standing up for the KID! The 21 year old which means he's considered an adult in many ways. He can vote. He can buy alcohol. He can serve a life sentence. He can join the Army. He just can't be criticized in the media.

I think Dan Hawkins, head coach of Colorado, said it best....
"It's division 1 football! It's the BIG 12! It ain't intramurals! Go play intramurals, brother … go play intramurals."

In theory yes he did do the right thing. Always support your players when they have been wronged.

But whenever I see the clip and he is yelling he is 40 yrs. old, that just sounded hilarious and started taking a comical turn. He should have stopped then, he had already made his point.

I think he did his JOB as a Head Coach.. he defended his player against a writer who knows little about the game.

He showed what's known, in the military, as Command Presence. Normally it should be "praise in public, and punish in private"... but sometimes you need to SMACK DOWN a trouble-maker.

For the most part, only people in the Media, who seem to be able to dish it out, but not take it. The vast majority of people who have read the article he was mad about have supported him, myself included.

He had good intentions. He was doing what a coach should do: stand up for your players.
