Cramps in early pregnancy should not be very severe or painful. If you feel they are, then please call your doctor. Pain can also signal a possible infection like a urinary tract infection. Either way, it sounds like you should be checked out.
All the best to you.

Some cramps are normal. I had quite a lot during the first few weeks but it's not good to have severe cramping. Back pain to me makes me think uti or something to do with your kidneys. I would go to the doctor to be safe. It could be nothing but going to the doctor could mean finding something early and the earlier the diagnosis the better.

I am 5 weeks and have the same thing, it is normal my Dr said all is fine
aches, pains and stretching feeling is normal in the tummy
you can have implantation cramps, ........
However if you start to spot, see your Dr this early in pregnancy the chances for miscarriage are greater.
The cramping feels a bit like menstrual cramps? Normal
the pain on the right side of back could be a bladder infection, I get them al the time and my kidney hurts.............
you are ok, just watch for spotting and or sudden bleeding with clotting.................

ring your midwife if your that concerned because you will not be able to rest, but i was having the same pains the other night and i am only 33 weeks and i phoned the doctor in the morning and it ended up being the baby moving and becoming engaged and i have a mild urine infection which can cause cramps and vagina pain, so i would ring your doctor tomorrow to get checked over. If the pains get a lot worse don't even bother ringing the midwife just go to the hospital because that is were she will send you because your so far gone Good luck x

I am 7wks with my 2nd child and went to the emergency room (under my Dr's advice) yesterday due to some small amount of blood with slight cramping. They did a sonogram and I heard my little ones heartbeat (thank God) in the end they gave me some literature that states
"During early pregnancy (1st 3 mo.) it is not uncommon to have a small amount of bleeding. this can be entirely normal. But if you have heavy bleeding or severe cramping occur, it can be an early sign of miscarriage.
In about half of patients with bleeding or cramping during early pregnancy, these symptoms will stop and the pregnancy will continue normally.
I also had this with my son early on, so I'm just going to look at this incident as the same as before..
Good luck and don't worry or over exert yourself.....

Most of the pain comes later, so I have to wonder if you have something going on...I guess I would check it with the doc. It is normal to have sharp, hot needle like pains when you sneeze later in pregnancy, but at 4 weeks your cervix really isnt doing all that much to cause that pain. But dont panic...unless you get heavy bleeding and strong cramping like a period.

It's just your body preparing itself for the months to come. The cramps are your uterus stretching to accomdate your new little one. The back pain could just be the pressure of your uterus. I have the same problem and I am 33 weeks... the cramps do get better but the back pain may not. So just try to do some prenatal yoga or stretching and eat right. You'll be okay. =)

go see a doctor...could just be hormones being released but severe cramping and bleeding can be an indicator of miscarriage. not to panic, if it worses or continues make an appointing with the doc.
