I was told to start taking them about 3-6 months before. I plan to TTC in January so I started taking them 4 months before. Folic acid is a huge help when trying to conceive. It preps the uterus and body if you will and is the biggest weapon against birth defects.

Prenatal vitamins do not actually help you to get pregnant. It is good to take them before conceiving for the simple fact that you will be healthier. In turn this is good for the baby when you do become pregnant.

They do NOT help you get pregnant. It is recommended that you take them because of the nutrients it will make sure that you can provide a growing fetus from the moment of ceonception. They won't help to actually get you pregnant.

Your cycles can be irregular for up to a year after getting off birth control. Sometimes women can take a while to get it out of their system.

Good luck!

I have read that you should take them at least 3 months prior to conception (when it's planned). I have read somewhere that certain vitamins do aid in conception, like zinc for the man, but I don't remember... This is what I found today...

Also, I have read that, if the man doesn't have any fertility issues, sex every day is fine for ttc, but if he does, wait a day in between.

GOOD LUCK!

They do not help you conceive but my doctor told me start taking them 3 months before trying so that when I did conceive I would have the needed vitamis, such as folic acid, already in my sysytem. I did this with both pregnancies.
