Some days ago read in a local paper that the mayor was saying how much county had improved, and cited how there were less homeless. Apparently he doesn't go out much, not only round the downtown area where there seems to be more always. But also in the beach city area.
Today as I waited for the bus, I couldn't have believed it was for real, if I hadn't seen it myself. There were dozens and dozens just crossing at the intersection. Some seem completely sane, and even healthy, while others are in terrible shape.
This being South Florida someone would say that it's not unusual at beginning of winter for the homeless to move camp here from other states. But we're still in September!
These people need shelters, and recently_authorities had said these had filled up. And if this is any indication, there'll be thousands more in these coming months. But the mayor says all the contrary.
