Plant cayenne pepper around the parameter. Deer hate the smell and the taste. It's also a great way to protect a vegetable garden.

People around my house will fence off an area with white ribbon of some sort to keep deer out. It seems to work to keep them out of gardens.

We have had some success in using the scent of a predator species as a repellent. In California, we had a problem with raccoons and solved it in that way. The material was supplied by a local garden shop and was (ready for this?) coyote urine. Search on that and you will find a lot. Don't ask how they get it, please, but it is available and works pretty well.
