How can I find out HOW someone died?

An old friend of mine died in 2002 and I need to know how. I already know the exact date through geneology websites but I do not know how, & the SSI death index does not say HOW, only where and when. Asking family or friends is not possible. Any ideas?

you can buy a copy of the death certificate and you will see the "cause of death" on that... you can buy anyone's death certificate.
