Well, you are full term, but he probably meant that you aren't 40 weeks yet. Some doctors feel very uncomfortable inducing a woman if there is no medical reason to do so. It can cause harder labor, and manymore medical interventions, including a higher possibility of a c-section. I'm sure he is just looking out for your best interest.

well 37 weeks is technically full term but inducing just cause you are umcomfortable is not always the way it works. It really depends on the doctor many will not induce unless there is a good reason. Inducing can make labor longer and harder and in some cases if it doesn't work you will need a c-section. Although at 39 weeks you think he may be a little more open I was induced at 39 weeks because of her size. i tend to have big babies! I don't think you are being treated unfairly because my first baby doc would not induce unless absolutley necessary. Good luck I know you are uncomfortable and hopefully baby will come soon!

If your period is normally really regular I would go by those dates rather than a scan. Scans are more accurate for dating when they are done really early like around 6-10 weeks. At 20 weeks they aren't as accurate as your baby has started to grow alot more and maybe bigger or smaller due to their genetics or other influences rather than just how far along you are. What will really piss you off is if you end up going ten days over you 'due' date of 12 March!! Although just be careful you doctor does not try and induce you when you are ten days over from 29th Feb when you may not have even quite hit your due date.

Most doctor wont induce unless you or your babys health is in danger or your past due. From what my Dr. told me full term is auctually 40 weeks. an its true when you get induced your more of a high risk delivery. i dont think your getting treated unfairly. i think your just anxious to have you baby!! i no i am i hope everthing works out for you

Nope, at lot of Dr's these days will not induce unless it is for a medical reason for you or the baby.
If you are 37 weeks, there is a good chance that he will be home from the funeral before the baby arrives.

Full term is 40 weeks. They have little risk at 37 weeks but full term is still 40 weeks. You're doctor is right. Being induced when it is not needed can cause lots of problems and has a higher risk for C-section.

Your doctor sounds as though he is conservative ,and looking out for the health of your baby. Its actually refreshing to see a doctor avoid unnecessary intervention. Induction should only be performed if the risks to continuing pregnancy outweigh the risks of inducing.
As far as your friends being able to be induced because of " being uncomfortable" , their doctors are "dumb' not yours. It's irresponsible to perform these actions without NEED. Why risk your child's health if it's not necessary.
And from experience, you don't want your husband out of town when you bring home the new baby. You will need love and support, and most of all, HELP.

I have had friends get induced at 38 weeks and their babies were fine. My boss was induced early because her doctor's husband was coming home from Iraq around her due date.
How close a family member is this person? Does your husband HAVE to go. I can see if it was a parent or sibling, but other than that he should stay with you.

No...he's just protecting you and your baby. Induction is hard on the mother's body and your baby just may not be ready to come yet. Most doctor's will not induce unless the baby or mother is in danger.

PS...remind your husband that the dead relative won't know if doesn't attend the funeral.

Dont induce because your husbands going to be gone. That is a bad reason. You should only induce if you medically need to save the baby or yourself.
