All powers in the US government are granted by the people - see the Constituiton.
The people are free to remove that power from politicians, individually or as a whole, at any time.
Politicians serve at the pleasure of the people as a result.
If the people don't like the representatives, or even the system, they areperfectly free to change it as they see fit.

Only in La La land, Bear with me here...In brief, he/she cares about their community, works as a volunteer gets involved locally, fights local issues, stands up for the neighbourhood. Decides to stand as a local councillor, gets elected, and paid expenses, only to discover that those who get ahead and the most perks follow the status quo and lick a**e. Decides he/she will have more influence and power as an MP. Gets elected gets good wages and more expenses only to discover he has less power and has to kiss even bigger a***s. Quickly realises that the more a***s that are licked the quicker they rise in the ranks. Gets a cabinet post, even more money and expenses, trouble is he/she is so busy licking a***e they have forgotten why they were put there in the first place or why they wanted to be there! They then look around at their lavish lifestyle, their golden pension, the yet to be written book, the after dinner speeches, or even that most holy of holies!!! an MEP. Look at our dear late departed from office of PM Mr. T.B. He is (would you believe) an ambassador to the Middle East! What was the question again?

No, politicians have no interest in serving the people. There are people in politics that truly are for the people but they never get elected because they do not have the money from special interest groups to back up their campaign and the media leaves them in the shadows because the media is in with the same special interest groups. The media runs our country.

I don't believe there is 1 politician out there that cares about anything but his or her own gain. They
all just tell us what we want to hear to get into office and crap all over us.

They serve the people in their pre-election speeches . Once they're in , all they do is make preparations to stay in . Political promises are only good up to election day .

Yes, but most of their work is delegated. There is nothing wrong with that....they can't do everything, so they give the work to their employees, and then then spend their time in the public eye.
I personally wouldn't want their job. Lots of stuff to do.
