What the court should look at is if the parents are taking steps to prevent their child from breaking the law.
In my community, there are several parents that fail to show up at Social Services for their scheduled appointments, and a lot of referrals get dismissed because the parents don't cooperate. If they do show up, they are given instructions by the social worker to follow through with the treatment, and many of them fail to do this.
If you can document the parent does not assist the police, schools, courts, and social services, then yes, they need to be held accoutable. Some are even bold enough to blame the police, schools, and Social Services for their childs problems by not doing their job.
Holding the parents accountable is the only way to give the child a chance.

I want to say "Yes!" But I also know that children have minds of their own and some will do things never before taught in the home and very much contrary to their up bringing. Therefore, I am forced to admit that it should be situational. There was a time in this country, when parents were held accountable for the actions of their children. Now, "it takes a village..." And no one is responsible or accountable.

YES ! And they CAN be punished ! You can sue them in either small claims or civil court . Once the parents realize their kids malicious ways will cost THEM money , they may begin to take more of an interest in where their kids are and what they`re doing .
Personally , I wouldn`t hesitate to haul the parents into the courtroom if their child damaged anything that belonged to me . It`s only fair .

It definitely reflects on them, but punish how? Jail time will not give them more time or the kids, well, maybe it will, after they get fired, but then, you need to work too, to support them. It depends on the punishment I guess, & I have a 13 year old boy, & he is prime for that, so I do & have been paying attention!

Parents shouldn't be punished because the government has gotten into the houses and does not allow parents to discipline their kids. This is the result of no discipline in the home or at school. You are fortunate your kids get straight A's. However, that doesn't exempt them from getting into serious trouble.

Parents shouldn't be held accountable for their child's conducts. They could try to raise their child to be productive member of society, but the rest is ultimately up to the kid. A convicted juvenile who committed the crime is old enough to know what he's doing.

I don't know about being punished, but they could certainly be billed for the costs of keeping their child in a juvenile detention facility.
