I dont know much about cars and im going to go look at a car this weekend and i dont know what things i should look out for.

i would ask for maintenance records ( oil changes, tires rotated, etc) also ge a carfax report and take it to a mechanic to have it checked out.

Ask the owner if he would have a problem with you taking the car to a mechanic of your choice and having it checked out, since you don't know a lot about cars and want to be sure you are making a good deal.

You can also ask him to take it to your mechanic, for it to be checked out. If the person has a problem with that, then look elsewhere for a car. That one may have some problems that they are hiding.

You can also check the VIN number and see if it shows any previous damage on Carfax.
