Usually repeat failure of these tanks is indication of a head gasket/cracked cylinder head that is allowing high pressure from the cylinders into the cooling system. This is most common on the 3.0L ohv engines. Call around and find a mechanic that has a combustion leak detector. This tool uses a special dye to check for the presence of combustion gasses in the cooling system. Also a faulty pressure cap on the tank could cause the system to build excess pressure but unfortunately I have seen the first scenario about 10 to 1! Good luck.

there should be a hole on top to release the pressure building up in the overflow tank. Also, if your thermostat is stuck or "frozen" which happens when your car overheats, this causes a high pressure to build up because the coolant can't flow thru the block fast enough to equalize the pressure. The easiest way to test this is to wait till the motor is cold, remove your radiator cap, start the car and let it run till it gets hot, if your thermostat is stuck, hot radiator fluid will come boiling out of the radiator cap like a geyser. BE CAREFULL you don't get scalded. If the fluid does not boil out, the thermostat is fine.

The first thing I could think of is a bad radiator cap, causing the pressure on the cooling system to be too high, bursting the tank.
Radiator caps are less than $10.00 at a parts store, so it would be worth the cost.

Maybe a stuck thermostat, Blown head Gasket, Cooling fan NOT working, Clogged Radiator. Collapsed lower hose [no spring inside]. Impeller on water pump worn down or broke. Loose Fan belt. Want me 2 go on ?

check the cap to the overflow they are supposed to bleed off pressure if it gets to high you may only need a $25 cap to solve the problem
