Regular meats. seafood (yes, cod is traditional and usually eaten at Christmas and there must really be like 1001 different cod recipes), potatoes, rice, beans and vegetables in general. We don't eat snails as someone else stated, except down south. Feijoada or Tripas à Moda do Porto are dishes with beans and, yes, Cozido à Portuguesa (which has been mentioned but has no beans in contrarily to what has been said) is also typical and much more. Anywaym if you really want to know, most of the food is just the same throughout the entire western world these days... Oh, and we do have some good wines, especially the red ones, and olives are great for those who like them (I do). It's a bit hard to tell really... You should come and try yourself, but not just stay for a week or so, you should spend some years in Portugal and then you'd really know.

Portuguese eat all who doesn't crawl. LOL
We don't eat lizards and grasshoppers or snakes, but all animals who have 4 feet, we eat.
And all the fish too.
We love meat dishes and cod fish dishes and fish dishes and sea food dishes.
We have thousands of ways of cooking each meat or fish.
Tradition?
Just in Christmas. When people in the USA eat their turkey in Thanksgiving, we eat it in the Chrismas dinner. Roasted and sometimes stuffed with delicious things and gravy, and chips, and white rice.
Also boiled cod fish and vegetables is a must for Christmas night dinner. With garlic and olive oil sauce.
The portuguese don't eat "tapas" like one of the answers stated. That's a spanish tradition.
If you want a type of "national" dish, you can ask for a "cozido à portuguesa" in a good portuguese restaurant: it's lots of different types of meat, and smoked meats, with lots of vegetables (turnip, potatoes, cavages, carrots) and beans at side.
We like to drink red wine with our dinner (not everyday of course). Portuguese red wine is the best in the world! Better than the french. I try all the wines I can get my hands on during my travels too see if I can find one better, and I couldn't until now althought I have travelled all over the world. :o)
If you come to Portugal send me an email and I'll send you some tips about lovely places to see and restaurants to eat well.

They both are Ideal for your health. If you eat both, you're better off. But yea, I'd personally choose fruits because they taste better.

It will depend on the fruit or plant associated with a comparison. If perhaps you compare a farrenheit to a carrot, the carrot is the better of the two nutritional. But since you compare an avocado to the carrot, then your avocado is better. Both equally the apple and avocado, are fruits.

If you go there try a "cataplana". It´s a kind of fish stew with vegetables and meat like chicken. It´s cooked in the same pan they serve it to your table.
