I'm not a fan of his, but why were the patrons of Sylvia's Restaurant so offended!? I think they are making a bigger deal of it then it really is.

Some people are always trying to make a martyr out of themselves!

I'm SO tired of the harrassment of any and every white media member who hold an OPINION, or makes a comment that hasn't been run past the Political-correctness Police.

Mr O'Reilly has the right to say whatever he thinks... just as everyone else does.

Having BEEN in Popeye's, Navy Mess Lines, and other such locations over the last 20 years... and CLEARLY heard many an "individual of color" scream at the counter-help variations of: "Biatch, where's my Ice-tea"... I can see Mr. O'Reilly's observation as valid.

He was pretty much saying many of the racist stereotypical behaviors he associates with black people were not exhibited by the black people in this black owned and frequented restaurant, and he was surprised by this.

I guess patrons are offended because now they know that prior to his visit he envisioned all black owned and frequented restaurants as being crude intimidating places. I'm sure that they hope media personalities and people in general, view them as individuals, with respect. Now Bill O has a little more accurate picture of black people, but black people know what he thought of them before this, and who knows what other stereotypes he holds that did not get addressed in his one visit to Sylvia's.

I just watched the feed you posted (thanks!), I see absolutely nothing negative about his comments. As a matter of fact, if ppl watch it completely, and not just snips or go by word of mouth, he was speaking AGAINST racism. He simply was making the point whether it be Black, or Iltalian restaurant atmosphere, it was the "same," no different....um,what exactly is the tizzy? As a minority, I find no fault with what the man said. Everyone is waiting for another Don Imus, a shame. I agree, Happycows, a bigger deal then it really is.

Once I found out it was Media Matters and when you listen to the whole thing in context.
Media Matters was on all out attack mode on Bill.

Well as far as the patrons I like to know if they heard the full tape or just what was fed to them by Media Matters.

I like how the Media Matter's guy slid in that if Bill rob a bank he would say he was making a with drawl.
If you can't see the bias in what they were up to you are truly blind.

I thought his comments were to point out that the things that white racists think happen in black restaurants was not happening there. Of course, black racists took exception to that. So he is OK, but the black racists are not. I suppose white racists will say O'Reilly was lying and that they were an unruly, profane crowd and that those complaining that he said it was not happening just prove that it was. Racism, black or white is getting to be pretty funny and funny is the last step to oblivion. God, it will be great when the racists go back under rocks.

He came across as an ignorant bonehead who bought into all the stereotypes about black people. He could have said he had a wonderful experience, the food was great, the people were lovely, etc. And he could have said the same thing about the Anita Baker concert--the people were lovely, the music was lovely, etc. He didn't have to express surprise that there are black people who know how to act civilized.

They are. All they see is race. Did they really sit back and listen to his words. He was saying you shouldn't stereotype people. It is kind of hard though when they keep contributing to the stereotype.

People are taking this completely out of context. Bill O'Reilly was saying nothing more than that there's no difference between a restaraunt run by blacks than one run by whites, and that people who incite racial tensions (like Sharpton, for instance) are doing nothing for their communities but causing harm.

The fact that people are throwing a fit about his comments just proves his point.

I wasn't being racist. I love Bill O'reilly. And I TIVO his show every night. He is dead on with what is wrong with this country. People need to get past race. Our country is a melting pot.
