Boil your water, throw in the grounds, let it cook a minute or so, strain it through a coffee filter. Voila!

(Paper towels work as coffee filters if you ever run out.)

I have learned that the fancier the product, the more likely it is to break on me. I have learned the hard way. If I purchase something, like a TV with VCR and DVD built in , sure as than sugar ONE or more of the functions is going to break. If I buy a coffee maker that does everything except scramble my eggs in the morning, something will screw up.

So I only do simple, one function things now.

PS. Is it plugged in? I have thought things didn't work because it was not totally plugged all the way into the wall, ot the surge protector was off

RETURN IT!!! Get a new one!

If you still have the instruction booklet, they sometimes have 800#'s or a website, that may give you trouble shooting information. If not, the store you purchased it from may still have the product with the information. I'm assuming that you don't have the receipt or the warranty is out, so you can't return it. It's upsetting when something new tears up, esp if it's supposed to be the 'better' model. Now I just buy the product with least bells and whistles to tear up on it.

If you kept the owner's manual,
you can go over everything
step by step and maybe find the glitch. if its the programmable kind, its usually
in the set-up somewhere.
If all fails, it gets packed up and sent back to the dealer.
Just had a thought: could it
maybe in your circuit breaker
box? Or is something wrong
with that wall outlet?

Many times all you need to do is to set the clock. Automatic coffee makers won't work unless the time is set.

Did you turn it on? Does it have coffee and water? Is it plugged in? That's it, I'm all outta helpfulness.
