During the 150 years America was "part of the empire" It was the policy,of the English,to push the Indians and French 'out west'. The English had many Indian agents.some of their leaders even traveled to England.During our revolutionary war we told the natives "this is a family fight between us and old England, not join either side.Keep the hatched buried deep" The English excited, armed, and paid them Told them to "feast on a Bostonian and drink his blood" T Jefferson made mention of the "mercilous indian savages" in our declareation of independence. After our victory ,to the amazement of the indians, there was no mention of the American Indians in the peace treaty The English followed the same path, when we declared war on them in 1812 They used them, than said "your on your own" Can any one explain this?

Well yank its like this and before you point your finger at the British, you should take a closer look at your history books. Britain's part in the destruction of the native American way of life kinda comes to a stop in the late 1700,dreds, when America became independent!. At this time the English colonies didn't go any further than Ohio. from there west ward was the great divide and the home of the plains Indians who where later subjugated! and herded into reservations where corrupt Indian agents employed by the American governments systematically robbed and miss appropriated funds and material assistance which should have been used to help the Native Americans adjust to the new way of life imposed on them by greedy officials who's only aim was to wipe out the savages
The American Indian was miss treated by the English. and the French, and the Spanish and by numerous other nationalities as well. Most of the death and ethnic cleansing was carried out with the knowledge and connivance of the American government! from 1800 on wards with the real murder coming when the settlers went out west and moved into the traditional Indian territories, killing maiming along the way often just for fun and mostly for greed!.

Wherever the British went seeking land and wealth we acted like bullies. People of all other colours were regarded as worthless and below contempt by many of the invaders. Australia, India and Africa are prime examples of how the British could be so cruel to their fellow man. Obviously when the British emigrated to the United States of America they automatically pushed the Indians to the West but it was not until the Americans themselves became more mobile that the indigenous tribes felt their cold steel. The US is now receiving just repayment with the growth of the black population and the illegal immigation from Mexico and Cuba.
In the UK we shall, slowly but surely, pay for our exploitation of others by the continuous arrival of people from elsehere.

Don't look for any historical excuses, British started the exploitation and extermination of the Indigenous American Indians and the ones that call themselves Americans today continued the genocide of them to this day. Just read your history and be objective about it. The true answer is buried in there somewhere.

The whole idea that Americans/British did something exceptionally wrong to the Indians is absurd. The Indians had land, European people invaded and the Indians tried to fight back, but they lost. It happened all over Europe, Asia and South America many, many times. That whole idea that somehow America owes something to the Indians is just stupid.

Since there is no one alive today that lived through this I think you will have trouble getting the correct answer. Indians scalped my ancestors and I am not a big fan of this revisionist history that portrays them as great people. What about the French and Indian war?

I don't remember reading about redcoats massacring Indians like the US Cavalry.
I remember reading about Indian migration to British Canada which is probably why Indians fought on the British side in the 1812 war.

War, invasion, colonisation is never a pretty buisness. The only way to manage an empire is to make and break alliances to your own advantage, and kill anyone who stands against you. Do you think the romans had such a large empire without a bit of scheming and back-stabbing ?

I was not alive back then but I do know this:
The different "native american" tribes, nations, whatever, would occcationally war among themselves and they could be as brutal, inhumane, and savage as any "white man".
Oh ! By the way....many of them engaged in the practice of slavery.
